Antique Victorian 800 Silver Filigree Agate Brooch, Round, Flat Cut, Crystalline, Natural Stone, Rope Edge, Amazing Stone! #c207
I present today this beautiful antique Victorian 800 silver and agate brooch!
This beautiful Victorian brooch is of European origin. It features a large round agate stone cabochon that has been set into an 800 silver filigree setting. The amazing agate stone is cut in a cross section and varies in color and formation from a semi-translucent amber color on one side, to white crystalline quartz in the center, and to a solid black and reddish brown on the other side. The bezel of the stone is smooth and the stone has that wonderful old flat cut top. A rope detail surrounds the bezel and serves as a fabulous transition to the gorgeous beaded filigree frame. The brooch pin is attached by a tube hinge and it closes with a trombone clasp. It's a superb piece!
The brooch measures about 1 3/8 inches long, 1 3/4 inches wide and weighs 9.3 grams. The piece is hallmarked "800" for 800 silver on the back of the brooch.
Agate brooches like this one were quite popular in the Victorian period. They are fantastic pieces of history and very collectible. The colors and variations in the agate stone of this brooch are simply amazing! It would look wonderful worn on a suit lapel, but would also look stunning worn at the neckline of a pretty blouse. The brooch is in excellent vintage condition with an antique patina to the silver. The stone is exceptional and the trombone clasp works properly and holds securely. It's a glorious find!
