Regular price $79.00
This handmade pill box from Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico is comprised of fine sterling silver and abalone shell. The box is oval in shape and the top of the lid has been beautifully bezel-set with a colorful abalone shell cabochon. The edges around the bezel-set cabochon are accented by a lovely rope detail, adding beauty and visual interest to the piece. The abalone shell is one glorious piece that exhibits a rainbow of colors and a fabulous iridescence. The lid is hinged and closes via compression. The box can be used to store pills to take along in a purse or could hold small jewelry pieces on a bedside table. It's such a delightful little box!

The box measures about 1 1/4 inches wide, 7/8 inch deep, 9/16 inch tall and weighs 9.4 grams. It is signed and hallmarked "Hecho En Mexico Pachuca HGO" in a triangle around the artist's initials "AYB" and "925"and also with an Eagle 1 Mark on the bottom of the box. I was unable to identify the artist's name.

This is a wonderful handcrafted box that could be used to hold pills, jewelry or tiny trinkets. It would make a marvelous gift for the person who appreciates Mexican silver and would also make a fine jewelry presentation box. The box is in excellent vintage condition with normal surface scratches from previous use and some patina from age. It's a marvelous example of Mexican silver artistry!
