Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver & Abalone Concho Brooch, Pin, Scalloped, Sawtooth, Dyed Abalone, Teal, Native American, Pretty! #c122
For offer today, I have a beautiful vintage Navajo sterling silver concho brooch!
This concho brooch is oval in shape with a shell-like scalloped edge around the edges. The piece has deeply engraved lines in between each of the scallops that run from the edges to the center of the piece. A gorgeous marquise-shaped, dyed abalone shell stone sits in a sawtooth bezel in the center of the brooch. It has gorgeous dark and light teal colors that change as the piece is moved. The brooch closes with a locking pin back. The pin extends out past the brooch as in much older pieces, but from its hardware I believe it is a mid-century piece. It's such a pretty brooch!
The brooch measures about 1 1/4 inches long, 7/8 inch wide and weighs 4.6 grams. It is hallmarked "Sterling" on the back of the brooch.
This brooch is a fabulous handcrafted older Navajo piece! The abalone is such a gorgeous turquoise color and it coordinates so well with the sterling silver. The brooch is in very good condition. There is an indentation on the brooch on one side (photo #4). It doesn't look like a scratch and I can't determine if it occurred when the piece was made or afterward. It doesn't detract from the beauty of this fantastic handmade piece, but it has been priced accordingly. It's a marvelous vintage find!
