Vintage Taxco Mexico Sterling Silver & Turquoise Blue Glass Link Bracelet - Signed BETO - Eagle 22 #d232

Regular price $61.00
This beautiful bracelet from Taxco, Mexico is comprised of fine sterling silver and blue glass turquoise stones. It features seven swirled, tooled links with blue glass stones in the centers. One side of the links around the stones has been deeply engraved and oxidized black, which nicely sets off both the design and the blue color of the stones. The links are connected together with silver bead topped connecters which add three-dimensional beauty to the piece. The bracelet closes with a silver box clasp which slides in behind one of the links. It's a lovely old Mexican bracelet!

The bracelet measures about 7 inches long, 11mm wide and weighs 11.1 grams. It is signed "BETO" and with an Eagle 22 Mark on the back of the clasp. It is also marked "Sterling Mexico" in a circle around what I believe are the words" Hecho En" on the back of one link. I could not find much information on BETO, but the mark is acknowledged in the "Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks" book by Bille Hougart, and is associated with the Eagle mark of 22, which dates it from 1948 through 1980. From the rustic style of this piece and it hand tooled design, I believe it is from circa the 1950s.

This bracelet is a great example of old Mexican jewelry design and would make a fine addition to a Mexican silver jewelry collection. The piece is handmade, and does have variations to construction and finish that would not be found in a machine-made piece. The bracelet is in very good vintage condition, with the exception of one connector link near slide in portion of the clasp (photo #7). The connector has lost its solder, so it is similar to an open jump ring. I gave it a good tug and it seems to hold just fine. It could be easily re-soldered to close it up if desired. I have discounted it a bit for this connector issue.
